Photo Studio site revamp
My role
For this smaller, independent project, I did everything from research and data interpretation to wireframing, visual design and content strategy. This project had a tight deadline so all work had to be completed within 2 months in the summer of 2019.
Process
Ian Lefebvre Photo Studio went from being a general photography shop to focusing exclusively on art documentation.
The small budget called for some guerrilla user testing. By creating our own forms and recruiting through social networks we were able to save resources.
User research showed that users had an interest in documentation processes in addition to standard practical concerns like price and contact info. This information was the basis of the content strategy, creating blog posts and custom location shots to describe the technical work of the photo studio.
The home page features the studio's work topmost, since this is the primary thing new clients are looking for when they visit the site. Technical blog posts and featured book contributions establish the studio as having strong expertise in the field. The page also features easy access to 'get in touch' and 'request a quote' for busy returning customers.
The blog goes in to detail on different technological approaches to creating documents and exhibition products. This space is for knowledge sharing and establishing learning on new or little-used techniques in the field of art documentation.
The 'Works' page highlights sculpture and flat works separately, being that the technical treatment of each is distinct. The content on this page details lighting and colour accuracy techniques, which highlights the studio's expertise in these domains.
The 'Books' page showcases the significant photographic contributions the studio has made to many award winning art books. This page also showcases the studio's expertise in press proofing and project management for print publications.
100% of users polled said that they would use a 'Quick Quote' feature that provides an instantaneous work quote. We built this feature into the contact page, and included additional modes of contact for users who prefer to use traditional modes of contact.
Outcomes and lessons learned
Research identified characteristics of new target market that helped develop personas and inform content strategy for the new website.
The client was very pleased with the site and had several new client leads within the first few weeks of the site launching.
